Deposit Options for Your ShelfSpace Check

When you receive a ShelfSpace check in your vendor portal, you can deposit it in three ways. Every deposit method works with the same Check 21 compliant check image. Choose whichever option your bank supports and your workflow prefers.

The most common method is mobile deposit. Over 90% of vendors on ShelfSpace deposit their checks this way. It takes under a minute and funds are typically available within one to two business days. For more on how ShelfSpace handles vendor payments end to end, see our accounts payable service.

Key point: ShelfSpace checks are real checks backed by the Check 21 Act. They clear through the Federal Reserve system just like paper checks. Your bank treats them no differently.

Mobile Deposit

Mobile deposit is the fastest way to deposit a ShelfSpace check. Here is how it works:

  1. Log into your vendor portal and navigate to the payment
  2. Download the check image to your phone
  3. Open your bank's mobile app and select mobile deposit
  4. Photograph the front and back of the check image on your screen (or from a printout)
  5. Confirm the amount and submit

Most banks accept check images photographed directly from your phone screen. If your bank requires a physical image, print the check first and photograph the printout.

Print at Home

If your bank does not accept screen captures for mobile deposit, you can print the check on standard paper. The check image includes all the required MICR line data and formatting. Print it at full size on letter paper, then deposit it via mobile deposit or bring it to your bank branch.

You do not need special check stock or magnetic ink. The Check 21 standard allows substitute checks printed on plain paper to be deposited and cleared just like originals.

Bank Compatibility

ShelfSpace checks work with every U.S. bank that accepts Check 21 deposits, which includes virtually all national, regional, and community banks. The check images meet the X9.37 standard used by the Federal Reserve for image exchange. If your bank accepts mobile deposit or remote deposit capture, it will accept a ShelfSpace check.

If you run into any issues with a specific bank, contact us at support@shelfspace.pro and we will help resolve it. In rare cases, a bank may require a printed copy rather than a screen capture -- printing resolves the issue immediately.

After Deposit

Once you deposit the check, your bank processes it through the standard clearing system. Funds typically appear in your account within one to two business days, depending on your bank's hold policy. ShelfSpace tracks the clearing status and updates the payment record once the check has cleared the retailer's bank account.

If a check fails to clear for any reason, the retailer is notified and we work with both parties to resolve the issue and reissue payment if necessary. See voiding and reissuing checks for details.
