ShelfSpace Check Payments

How ShelfSpace Payments Work

Checks are generated by ShelfSpace on behalf of retailers. They're real, they're legal, and they're backed by funds in the retailer's bank account. Here's everything you need to know.

Secure digital issuance Check 21 compliant Mobile deposit ready

What is this check?

ShelfSpace generates official checks on behalf of your retail partner. This check is drawn directly from the retailer's bank account — the same way a handwritten check would be.

Your retailer authorized this payment through ShelfSpace — whether it's a weekly consignment settlement based on what sold, or a wholesale payment against an invoice. Either way, every dollar is documented and accounted for.

This is the retailer's real money from their real bank account. ShelfSpace is the technology that creates and delivers the check — we are not a third-party intermediary holding or moving funds.

Payment Determined

Why this is better than a handwritten check

ShelfSpace checks aren't a substitute for the "real thing." They are the real thing — with several significant improvements built in.

Eliminates human error

Check amounts are auto-calculated from settlement data. No manual math, no transposed digits, no discrepancies.

Tamper-evident chain of custody

Every check has a digital audit trail from the moment it's created. No one can alter the amount, payee, or date after issuance.

Optimized MICR line

Machine-printed MICR encoding is optimized for bank scanners, reducing misreads and deposit rejections compared to handwritten checks.

Tied to settlement data

Every check references a specific settlement report with a complete product-level breakdown of what sold and what you're owed.

Verified and trackable

Check authenticity can be verified by anyone — you, your bank, or your accountant — via the ShelfSpace verification portal.

Instant availability

No waiting for mail. You're notified the moment a check is ready, and you can download it from your secure portal immediately.

How to deposit

You have two options. Both work. Choose whichever is most convenient for you.

Recommended

Mobile Deposit

1
Print the check page on standard 8.5" x 11" white paper using any regular printer.
2
Cut along the dashed line to separate the check from the instruction sheet.
3
Endorse the back: sign your name and write "For Mobile Deposit Only" (or check the box on the back).
4
Photograph the front and back using your bank's mobile app, just like any other check.
Also Works

Bank Teller

1
Print the full page on standard 8.5" x 11" white paper. Color or black and white both work.
2
Don't cut. Take the entire printed sheet to your bank — the teller can process it as-is.
3
Deposit it with the teller like any other check. If asked, let them know it's a Check 21 substitute check.

Important notes

Do NOT use an ATM to deposit this check
Standard 8.5" x 11" white paper is all you need
Any regular printer — no special ink or paper required
Color or black and white printing both work fine

Frequently asked questions

This is rare, but it can happen — especially with mobile deposit on first use. If your bank declines the deposit, try depositing with a teller instead and let them know it's a Check 21 substitute check. If you're still having trouble, contact us at support@shelfspace.pro and we'll help resolve it directly with your bank.
No. A cashier's check is drawn on the bank's own funds. A ShelfSpace check is drawn on the retailer's bank account — just like a regular business check. The retailer's name and bank appear on the check because it's their money being paid to you.
ShelfSpace checks are void after 90 days from the issue date (printed on the check). We recommend depositing within a few days of receiving it. If your check has expired, contact your retailer to request a reissue.
Payment method preferences are set by your retail partner. If you'd prefer to receive payments via ACH or another method, talk to your retailer about their available payment options. ShelfSpace supports multiple payment methods at the retailer's discretion.
For questions about your check or payment, email support@shelfspace.pro. For questions about the settlement amount or what sold, contact your retail partner directly — they have full visibility into the settlement report that generated your check.
No. Like any check, it can only be deposited once. Attempting to deposit the same check twice is considered fraud. If you need a replacement check for any reason, contact your retailer — they can void and reissue through ShelfSpace.
